Chairman's thoughts - as the seasons change...

It is back to the time of year where the weather and environment deteriorate, introducing some key risks for driving. Shorter days is one, along with lower temperatures, changeable weather, low sun and micro-climates. All of these need to be on your mind when out on the roads. Some things to think about if you haven’t already:
Tyres - winter tyres are an option, although the weather down here generally isn’t
cold enough to really justify them being your only set. Give some decent all season
ones some thought though if you are in the market for replacements.
Screen wash - keep some premixed stuff handy at home and keep the car well
topped up. It’s surprising how much you get through once they start treating the
roads with salt.
Windscreen protection - a good quality rain repellent on your screens is well
worth the investment. The best ones take some time to apply (and need to be done
in the dry), but they really do improve your overall visibility.
Extra Provisions - Keep some kit in your car in case you get stranded. No one
goes out expecting or planning to get stuck due to a breakdown or poor weather,
so consider keeping some basics in the car through the winter (clothing, blankets
and the like. Fire extinguisher and first aid kit are also worth considering).
Eyes - There’s little we can do about the short days, but having your eyesight
checked is important. Poor light can exacerbate existing conditions, so if you aren’t
already having your eyesight checked, do so!
Keep practising as best you can, stay safe and keep in touch.
